Rose Hip Seed Oil (Rosa Canina / Rosa Rubiginosa / Rosa Moschata)
The Dog Rose, Sweet Briar Rose and the Musk Rose are grown primarily for their rose hips. Once the shrub has flowered, the hips grow fat and red. When these are ripe they are harvested, dried, peeled and the seeds are pressed to produce pure rose hip seed oil. The finest rose hips are grown in Chile, on the unspoiled foothills of the Andes.
Not to be confused with its heavenly-scented cousin, Damask Rose essential oil, rose hip seed oil is odourless. This precious oil though is one of the most potent ingredients in the new beauty pharmacopoeia. Rich in transretinoic acid and Omega 6 & 3 essential fatty acids, it has been clinically proved to reduce scarring, stretch marks and wrinkles.
Rose hip seed oil comes in many grades - from a deep orangey red to a light yellow: the darker the oil, the higher the concentration of active substances.
